Nothing can stop Liam Neeson’s latest action flick, Honest Thief, not even a virus.

In what is now pretty much a subgenre all its own, Neeson again plays a man forced to make use of his particular set of skills. This time he’s a bank robber trying to go straight for his girlfriend. He’s called up the FBI and is willing to give back all the money in exchange for freedom, but two crooked agents decide to take the money for himself and frame him. The only way to prove himself after their betrayal is to take down the agents, which, of course, he’s ready to do with gusto.

This outing is directed and co-written by Mark Williams, a relative newcomer with only one previous feature under his belt. That was the ruthless business drama A Family Man, which means he’s coming into this with no action experience. Sure, Neeson’s done plenty of it, but he can’t make the thrills on his own. Hopefully Williams was up for capturing the pro in all his glory.

As per usual, a decent supporting cast turned out for this almost surefire hit. Kate Walsh steps in as Neeson’s girlfriend while Jai Courtney and Anthony Ramos are the crooked FBI officials. They (and their agents) know Neeson’s face sells an action movie nowadays, a trend that will hopefully continue despite the world’s weirdness.

Honest Thief is directed by Mark Williams and stars Liam Neeson, Kate Walsh, and Jai Courtney. It will be released in the US on October 9th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
