CHERRY Trailer

A young man’s life doesn’t go as planned in Cherry, the latest from directors Anthony and Joe Russo.

It all got off when Cherry went to war. He signed up without realizing what he was getting into, and after enduring the trauma of the front lines he returns home a very changed man. His girlfriend, family, and friends are there for him but don’t know how to help, so he eventually starts coping with illegal drugs. To feed that habit he takes up bank robbery, of all things, flipping the idea of a gun-wielding outlaw on its head.

There should be plenty of action with the war sequences and bank robberies, but this is predominantly being set up as a character piece about a stumbling American boy. It’s a remarkably small movie for the Russo brothers, who rose to prominence directing several of the biggest MCU entries to date (they’re responsible for Captain America: Civil WarInfinity War, and Endgame). They did a few smaller films and television before working on the world’s biggest franchise, but like many MCU directors, they weren’t well known before, making this, their first major step away from the MCU, a bit of a question mark.

They did retain a familiar star, picking current Spider-Man Tom Holland to be the titular Cherry. He’s been away from the tights more than the Russos and hence is more of a steady if unremarkable quantity for the film. Hopefully, this is another win for the successful trio.

Cherry is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and stars Tom Holland, Ciara Bravo, and Jack Reynor. It will be released in the US in theaters on February 26th and on Apple TV on March 12th. For international release dates, click here.
