Lake Tyrrell in Sea Lake, Australia

Lake Tyrrell

Lake Tyrrell is located in Victoria’s Mallee region, a short distance from the Calder Highway and a little over six miles (11 kilometers) north of the town of Sea Lake. There is a viewing platform and an information bay overlooking Victoria’s largest salt lake covering more than 20,ooo hectares.

One of the main attractions for visitors to this lake are the unique salt formations that form on the lake bed. At night, the lake provides the perfect environment to view the constellations of the southern hemisphere.

The environment around the lake is home to Mallee reptiles, kangaroos, emus, and White-fronted-chats. The lake also happens to be one of the largest breeding grounds for seagulls in the region. The surrounding saltbush and samphire also play host to countless animal species.
