2021 Golden Globe Awards Winners – ‘Borat 2’ + ‘Nomadland’ Winners

2021 Golden Globe Winners

The winners of the HFPA’s 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards, the precursor to the Academy Awards, have been announced tonight at a ceremony held virtually on Zoom + in Los Angeles, co-hosted by Tina Fey & Amy Poehler. It seems these awards get less and less relevant every year, but the winners are still worthy nonetheless. Here’s hoping the HFPA chose wisely. The list below will update with all film-related winners as they’re revealed during the live broadcast. The nominees from 2020 are actually a good selection of films, though they are a bit too fond of The Trial of the Chicago 7 this time. But it’s still great to see Mank, Borat 2, Palm Springs, Over the Moon, The Mauritanian, and On the Rocks among the nominees. It’s time to start the show, we’re curious to find out which films they’ve picked. Let’s see who is taking home Globes this year.

The 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards are being held virtually this year, co-hosted by Tina Fey & Amy Poehler, airing live on NBC. See the full list of 2020 film winners below. Winners highlighted in BOLD.

Final Thoughts: The best film won! Huzzah! But really, HFPA pretty much nailed it with all these winners – give or take a few. I’m not sure why they chose Rosamund Pike over Maria Bakalova or Anya Taylor-Joy… And Jodie Foster is great in The Mauritanian, but not really the expected winner. Everything else is pretty much right on target. I’m so hilariously happy to see Borat 2 win a couple of awards, Sacha Baron Cohen is the best and acknowledging that with some shiny golden statues is fine by me. And if this is a hint that Chloe Zhao will soon go on to win some Oscars, then heck yes! Make it happen. I’m also happy to see Soul pick up a few wins as well! Easily my favorite animated movie of the year (on my Top 10) and one of the best scores that’s unique and fun to listen to. Congrats all around to these winners, sometimes things turn out all right.

I’m also glad that they gave an award to Chadwick Boseman, importantly; and also to the wonderful Minari as well. Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari is finally out & available to watch on VOD now and it’s a must see. As for all the other nominees, each of these is still worth a watch even if it didn’t win. Always keep watching films.

What do you think of the 2021 winners? Is the show still entertaining with all the Zoom celebs and videos? Are these winners even worth analyzing? Which of your favorites from 2020 are you rooting for tonight?
