Chad Prather: Texas Venue Wanted to Censor Comedian’s Jokes

Chad Prather has an old-school philosophy when it comes to free speech.

He supports it unequivocally.

The way Prather sees it, speaking one’s mind sans filter can be healthy and revealing. Don’t pretend to be what people expect. Be authentic.

The host of Blaze TV’s “The Chad Prather Show” shared his philosophy this week on comedienne Chrissie Mayr’s podcast.

“The last bastion of free speech in America is comedy, People have so lost that concept,” Prather said before sharing a chilling example of how some in the culture don’t see it that way.

He told Mayr how a theater outside of Austin, Texas warned him about the material a comedian on his tour shared at a recent stop.

“We don’t want your opener to tell some of the jokes he told last night.,” he said. “I said, ‘you can’t tell a comic what to do on stage.”

“Some of the people who work at the theater, they said, ‘they were kind of offended last night, and I said, ‘f*** ’em. What are you gonna do? You asked for a comedian to come in here. You can’t ask for a guy to change what he does. Lenny Bruce, George Carlin … they went to jail for comedy. We’re not going back to those days when we tell somebody what they can and cannot do,” he said.

“We’re here to do comedy. We’re here to offend you. Mocking and ridicule, it’s in the job description,” he said. “I don’t care if you’re gay, straight, black, white, fat, skinny, male, female, trans. I don’t give a s*** what you are. We’re gonna make fun of you. That’s what we do. That’s the joy of comedy.”

The rise of Cancel Culture and the woke revolution finds Prather worried about both comedy and western culture.

“That collectivist group think has destroyed the hell out of language because now people say these things, the wind blows a certain way and they feel they have to say things a certain way and then I’m a nice person. They don’t want to marginalize any body or any group of people. That doesn’t change what’s going on in their heart. They might be lying, They might just be saying all the right words.

“I would rather somebody come out and say exactly what they’re thinking, because then, if they’re being an a**hole or a s***head I can call ’em an a**hole or a s***head,” he said. “Their language is the only way I can get a reflection of what’s going on in their brain and their personality. I want a person to tell me the truth.”

Prather’s comedy career began when his YouTube video rants began going viral. He later hit the road as a touring comedian, went viral again with the song parody, “I’ve Got Friends in Safe Spaces,” before joining Blaze TV.
