BARB AND STAR GO TO VISTA DEL MAR Trailer

The women behind Bridesmaids bring you another comedy about female friendship in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.

The trailer cheekily doesn’t give too much away, not even the main characters’ faces. It’s a bit of a statement to say that the film doesn’t need those to sell and that the story of two middle-aged women going on a kooky vacation will be enough to get people to rent the film (it’s forgoing a theatrical release because of the pandemic). But why not? It makes clear that the film is from the pair who wrote the hit comedy Bridesmaids, and the poofed hair you see on the two women’s heads tells you all you need to know about the cheerful, easily impressed duo they’ve created.

Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are the pair if you didn’t know, writing and starring this time around. Josh Greenbaum was plucked to direct, whose background is mostly in comedy shorts and television like Fresh Off the Boat and New Girl. His lack of feature experience is indicative of the question marks around most of this movie. We know Jamie Dornan and Damon Wayans Jr. co-star, but who do they play? And what are the titular Barb and Star going to do during their Florida vacation? None of that should matter, this trailer seems to argue. It promises laughs from two proven comedians, and that should be enough to get people’s attention.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is directed by Josh Greenbaum and stars Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo, Damon Wayans Jr., and Jamie Dornan. It will be released in the US on PVOD on February 12th, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
