THUNDER FORCE Trailer

There’s a new superhero team on the job in Thunder Force, the latest from writer/director Ben Falcone.

The world needed superheroes. Supervillains were running amok, so scientist Emily Stanton developed a procedure to give regular people powers. She hoped that, eventually, it could be used on people who would be willing to battle the evil forces of the world, but then her childhood best friend Lydia showed up and inadvertently took the test dose. That left Lydia and Emily as the two good people in the world with powers, which means they have to rekindle their friendship while taking down the worst of the worst.

We’ve got plenty of superhero movies over the last twenty years, but superhero comedies are a bit rarer. Usually, movies put them in dour, world-altering situations, so the lower stakes goofiness promised by Thunder Force should provide a nice twist.

It’s the sort of thing Falcone has been doing with his wife/star Melissa McCarthy: taking a familiar genre and injecting lots of humor into it. The results, movies like Superintelligence and The Boss, have been hit and miss so far, but the addition of co-star Octavia Spencer here makes this too good to pass up. Plus, it’s coming right into your home via Netflix, so pretty much everyone will be able to enjoy the zany superhero fun.

Thunder Force is directed by Ben Falcone and stars Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer. It will be released on Netflix worldwide on April 9th, 20201.
